Two Broadway stars will help uncork the champagne on Salt Lake City's new George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theatre.

The Eccles Theatre —at 111 S. Main in downtown Salt Lake City — will have its grand opening performance Friday, Oct. 21, with Broadway stars Brian Stokes Mitchell and Megan Hilty as headliners, theater officials announced Thursday.

The event will include the Ballet West Orchestra, performing music directed by Utah composer/arranger Kurt Bestor. Ballet West will perform at the event, which will include a first-ever joint performance by Repertory Dance Theatre and Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company.

Mitchell won a Tony for his lead performance in the 2000 revival of "Kiss Me Kate," and has been acclaimed for roles in "Ragtime" (1998), "King Hedley II" (2001) and "Man of La Mancha" (2003), among others. He performed with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for the choir's 2008 Christmas concerts.

Hilty was nominated for a Tony this year for her performance in "Noises Off." She made her Broadway debut as Glinda in "Wicked" in 2004, and later played the role on the national tour. She also starred on both seasons of NBC's Broadway-based series "Smash."

The performance will kick off a three-day celebration of the theater's opening. Details of the weekend's other events have yet to be announced.

The Friday night show will start at 7:30 p.m., and black tie is encouraged. Tickets, ranging from $50 to $200, are on sale at ecclestheateropening.com.
