The Salt Lake County Fair is marking its 80th year this month — with traditional fair events and modern entertainment.

The fair starts Wednesday, Aug. 17, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Center, 2011 W. 11400 South, South Jordan. Hours are 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, noon to 10 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Admission to the fair is free; parking is $10 per car; tickets to special events and the City of Fun Carnival are available through the fair's website.

Among the highlights of the fair:

• A free concert by country singer Darryl Worley, Wednesday at 7 p.m. Opening is up-and-coming country singer Stephanie Quayle. Tickets available at the Equestrian Center box office, Burt Brothers Tires locations, and the Z104.3 office at 1285 W. 2320 South.

• Monster trucks from Pro Quad War Racing will be in action in the grandstand Thursday at 7 p.m. Girl Power Monster Truck Racing and Larry Quick's Ghost Rider are featured. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children (2 to 12).

• "Old School Rules" demolition derbies Friday and Saturday. Gates open at 6 p.m. both nights. Tickets for Friday's "family night" are $10 for children (2 to 12), and $15 for teens and adults. Tickets to Saturday's show are $18 each.

• Competitive events — creative arts and ceramics, home arts, photography and fine arts — will fill the arena.

• Livestock exhibits, Noah's Ark Petting Zoo, Hypno Hick, 50/50 BMX, The Great Bear Show, horse pulls, carnival rides, fair food and food trucks, a beer garden for adults, and musical acts at the stage near the fair entrance.
