• Three notable directors have died: Michael Cimino, who won the Best Picture Oscar for his Vietnam drama "The Deer Hunter" before making the studio-busting Western "Heaven's Gate," died at 77; Iranian master Abbas Kiarostami, who made the Palme D'Or-winning "A Taste of Cherry," died at 76; and Robin Hardy, who directed the cult-classic horror film "The Wicker Man," has died at 86.
