This week's Utah Crowd-Funding Project is a drive-in theater that you actually drive.

Hitch Theaters is a Salt Lake City company, founded by Joe Livingston, that makes a portable movie screen and projector. The screen can be set up either free-standing, or on the back of a pick-up truck. The projector stand — also available in free-standing mode or to put on top of a truck cab — holds the DVD projector and speakers. And the whole thing plugs into a truck's hitch receiver.

Livingston has an ambitious business plan to manufacture these portable screens and stands — and that takes money. The company has launched a crowd-funding campaign, via Kickstarter, to raise $220,000. So far, the campaign has raised $1,537. The deadline is May 27.

Benefits for backers range from an online thank-you (for $5) to a full package with a screen and three sizes of projector stand (for $535).

If you have a crowd-funding project you'd like mentioned on The Cricket blog, email it to: spmeans@sltrib.com. Be sure to put "crowd funding" in the subject line.
