This week's Utah Crowd-Funding Project could launch a band to the next level.

The five-member indie folk-pop-rock band Cinders is less than eight months old, and is on the verge of releasing its first album on May 27. (Listen to a bit of the band's music on SoundCloud.)

To put the finishing touches on the album, and get it out to the world, the band has launched a crowd-funding campaign via Kickstarter. The campaign's goal is $2,500. So far, the campaign has raised $1,119 in pledges. The deadline is May 16.

Benefits for backers range from band stickers (for $3) to an in-person live acoustic set anywhere in Utah (for $300 — which is pretty cheap to book a band for a gig).

If you have a crowd-funding project you'd like mentioned on The Cricket blog, email it to: spmeans@sltrib.com. Be sure to put "crowd funding" in the subject line.
