This week's Utah Crowd-Funding Project is a horror show years in the making.

Director/producer Joel Petrie has been working on "Slender," a found-footage horror movie based on the internet mythology of the Slender Man, for the last six years. The movie, which tells of strange doings after the disappearance of a couple of children, has been shot and edited — and now Petrie and his co-producers are working to get the details in place for distribution.

That requires money, which is why Petrie's company, Salt Lake City-based Parking Garage Pictures, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $15,000. So far, the campaign has raised $2,236 in pledges. The deadline is Aug. 17.

Benefits for backers range from a mention in the credits (for $5) to getting an executive-producer credit and a screening in your hometown (for $3,000). There also are merchandise options, including T-shirts, hoodies and DVDs.

If you have a crowd-funding project you'd like mentioned on The Cricket blog, email it to: spmeans@sltrib.com. Be sure to put "crowd funding" in the subject line.
