This week's Utah Crowd-Funding Project is trying to bring the taste of the street to Sugarhouse.

Spitz restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City specializes in "Mediterranean street food" and bills itself as "home of the Döner kebab" — sandwiches and wraps similar to a gyro.

The owners are in the process of expanding to a second location in Sugarhouse, at 1201 E. Wilmington Ave. (behind the Bed Bath & Beyond in Sugarhouse Commons). They want to put in a patio for "the European beer garden experience," and are using a crowd-funding campaign to raise the money and give their loyal customers a chance to get rewarded.

The campaign on Kickstarter aims to raise $4,777. So far, it has taken in $2,150 in pledges. Deadline is July 18.

Benefits for backers range from a voucher for a combo meal (for $10) to having the restaurant host a private party for you and 50 guests (for $5,000).

If you have a crowd-funding project you'd like mentioned on The Cricket blog, email it to: spmeans@sltrib.com. Be sure to put "crowd funding" in the subject line.
