Fans of Salt Lake City public-radio station KUER, already upset that longtime nighttime jazz host Steve Williams is retiring, will be even less happy at what's filling the old time slot.

Tonight is Williams' last night on the air, and the new programming starts on Wednesday. But "new" is a relative term, because KUER's added shows are already available on rival public station KCPW.

KUER, 90.1 FM, will start airing "q," the Canadian arts-and-culture talk show, at 8 p.m., followed by an hour of "Public Radio Remix" at 9 p.m. Then, at 10 p.m., the station will start its overnight feed from the BBC World Service two hours earlier than before.

KCPW, 88.3 FM, airs "q" at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily, and three hours of "Public Radio Remix" from 9 p.m. to midnight — when it also switches over to the BBC in the wee small hours.

KUER's new weekend evening line-up includes: the music/comedy/interview show "Live Wire!," Saturdays at 7 p.m.; the storytelling "The Moth Radio Hour," Saturdays at 8 p.m.; the culture interview show "Bullseye," Saturdays at 9 p.m.; the investigative reporting program "Reveal," Sundays at 8 p.m. (monthly for now, weekly starting in January); the community-driven news show "State of the Re:Union," Sundays at 8 p.m. (through December); and the "TED Radio Hour," featuring TED Talks from all over, Sundays at 9 p.m. ("Live Wire!" and "The Moth Radio Hour" currently air on KCPW.)

In a daytime programming change, KUER is cutting "The Diane Rehm Show" to an hour, Mondays through Thursdays at 9 a.m., and adding the news show "Here & Now" at 10 a.m.
