The Sundance Institute has announced the slate of films and music events for NextFest, which gives Los Angeles a summertime taste of what happened in Park City last January.

The festival runs Aug. 7-9 in The Theatre at The Ace Hotel, in downtown Los Angeles. It features films that played at this year's Sundance Film Festival, often paired with musical performances.

NextFest's kick-off event, set for Aug. 2 at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, is the L.A. premiere of "Cop Car." The thriller, directed by Jon Watts (who was just signed to direct the rebooted "Spider-Man"), is about two small-town boys who take a police car on a joyride — one that could spell trouble for the sheriff (Kevin Bacon) who knows the car wasn't where it should have been.

Here's the rest of the line-up — all L.A. premieres happening at The Ace:

• Friday, Aug. 7, 8 p.m. • "Mistress America," director Noah Baumbach's collaboration with girlfriend/muse Greta Gerwig, about a New York college freshman (Lola Kirke) who is drawn into the world of her soon-to-be-stepsister (played by Gerwig). Musical performer: Sky Ferreira.

• Saturday, Aug. 8, 3:30 p.m. • "Finders Keepers," a documentary about an amputee who tries to recover his mummified leg from an entrepreneur who found it in a barbecue grill he bought at an auction. Musical performer: To be announced.

• Saturday, Aug. 8, 8 p.m. • "Entertainment," director Rick Alverson's deadpan comedy about a broken-down comic (Gregg Turkington) trying to revive his career and reunite with his estranged daughter (Amy Seimetz). Musical performer: Sharon Van Etten.

• Sunday, Aug. 9, 3:30 p.m. • "Cronies," about two 22-year-olds whose friendship has been going since childhood, but may not last the day. Musical performer: To be announced.

• Sunday, Aug. 9, 8 p.m. • "Turbo Kid," a take on '80s action films, a post-apocalyptic tale of an orphaned teen trying to save his female-robot companion from a warlord. Musical performers: A DJ battle, between Alan Palomo (Neon Indian) and Chaz Bundick (Toro Y Moi).
