Robert Redford's portrayal of newsman Dan Rather is a step closer to your local movie theater.

The drama "Truth," which chronicles how pursuing George W. Bush's spotty National Guard record brought Rather's career at CBS to an unceremonious end, has been picked up for distribution by Sony Pictures Classics, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie stars Redford as Rather, and Cate Blanchett as Mary Mapes, the producer who put together the Bush story. Screenwriter James Vanderbilt ("Zodiac," "White House Down") makes his diretorial debut on the film.

THR writes that the deal, reported to be worth $6 million, was sealed this week at the Cannes Film Festival, negotiated by Sony Classics co-president Michael Barker and filmmaker Brett Ratner, one of the movie's producers. The deal happened aboard a 289-foot yacht owned by Australian billionaire James Packer (one of the film's executive producers).
