Thierry Fischer, conductor and artistic director of the Utah Symphony, will have a busy weekend in London.

Fischer has been pressed into service at the last minute to conduct the BBC Symphony this Saturday night, in a performance of Pierre Boulez' works "Notations" and "Pli selon Pli" at London's Barbican Hall.

The concert is part of a "Total Immersion" series of events honoring Boulez, the French composer, who marks his 90th birthday next Thursday.

Fischer is replacing French conductor François-Xavier Roth. No reason has been given for Roth's cancellation.

Fischer will stay in London another week, as he conducts the London Sinfonietta on March 28. He'll be back at the Abravanel Hall podium on April 10 and 11, leading the Utah Symphony in a concert featuring works by Debussy, Stravinsky and Ravel.
