This week's Utah Crowd-Funding Project will help show the world a love story by a Utah filmmaker.

The short documentary film "Elder" focuses on Tom Clark, a photographer who recalls his days as an LDS missionary in Pescara, Italy, in 1974 — and how he went against his church's teachings and his parents' admonitions when he met and fell in love with Gianni, an Italian Communist.

Salt Lake City-based filmmaker Genéa Gaudet wrote, directed and edited "Elder," which features an interview with Clark as well as home movies he shot at the time. The movie is set to make its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York next month.

As is typical with a film a month before its premiere, Gaudet is in the process of post-production. That requires finishing funds, which Gaudet is seeking via a crowd-funding campaign.

The campaign on Kickstarter is seeking a minimum of $7,500, to finish the score, sound mix, color correction, titles, legal clearance fees, and making a master copy for Tribeca.

So far, the campaign has raised $2,390, with a deadline of April 10.

Benefits for backers range from a listing on the film's website (for $15) to a package that includes an associate-producer credit, a print of one of Clark's art photos and one of his hand-knit beanies (for $1,000).
