Part II of The Cricket's predictions for the 87th Academy Awards brings us to the craft categories.

On Tuesday, The Cricket tackled the technical categories. Thursday will bring the specialty categories (animation, foreign-language, documentary and shorts). On Friday, in this space and in the print edition of The Salt Lake Tribune, it's the major categories — directing, screenwriting, acting and best picture.

Cinematography

The nominees are • Emmanuel Lubezki, "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)"; Robert Yeoman, "The Grand Budapest Hotel"; Lukasz Zal and Ryszard Lenczewski; Dick Pope, "Mr. Turner"; Roger Deakins, "Unbroken."

Who will win • Lubezki's swooping, twisting, pirouetting camerawork in "Birdman."

Who should win • Dick Pope's luminous images match those of painter J.M.W. Turner, whose life is chronicled in "Mr. Turner."

Production design

The nominees are • "The Grand Budapest Hotel," Adam Stockhausen (production design) and Anna Pinnock (set decoration); "The Imitation Game," Maria Djurkovic (production design) and Tatiana Macdonald (set decoration); "Interstellar" Nathan Crowley (production design) and Gary Fettis (set decoration); "Into the Woods" Dennis Gassner (production design) and Anna Pinnock (set decoration); "Mr. Turner" Suzie Davies (production design) and Charlotte Watts (set decoration).

Who will win • The multiple venues of "The Grand Budapest Hotel," from old European elegance and Soviet bloc squalor, are a wonder.

Who should win • For wit and detail, "The Grand Budapest Hotel" is hard to beat.

Costume design

The nominees are • Milena Canonero, "The Grand Budapest Hotel"; Mark Bridges, "Inherent Vice"; Colleen Atwood, "Into the Woods"; Anna B. Sheppard and Jane Clive, "Maleficent"; Jacqueline Durran, "Mr. Turner."

Who will win • The elaborate fantasy of "Into the Woods."

Who should win • The whimsy of "The Grand Budapest Hotel."

Makeup and hairstyling

"Foxcatcher," Bill Corso and Dennis Liddiard; "The Grand Budapest Hotel," Frances Hannon and Mark Coulier; "Guardians of the Galaxy," Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou and David White.

Who will win • "Guardians of the Galaxy," for the variety of body-painting styles.

Who should win • The multi-colored spectacle of "Guardians of the Galaxy."

Original score

The nominees are • Alexandre Desplat, "The Grand Budapest Hotel"; Alexandre Desplat, "The Imitation Game"; Hans Zimmer, "Interstellar"; Gary Version, "Mr. Turner"; Jóhann Jóhannsson, "The Theory of Everything."

Who will win • Jóhannsson won the Golden Globe for "The Theory of Everything," and is likely to repeat here.

Who should win • Seeing Desplat win for "The Grand Budapest Hotel's" charming old-world score would be a treat – but it's possible Desplat's votes will split between his two scores.

Original song

The nominees are • "Everything Is Awesome" in "The Lego Movie"; "Glory" in "Selma"; "Grateful" in "Beyond the Lights"; "I'm Not Gonna Miss You" in "Glen Campbell … I'll Be Me"; "Lost Stars" in "Begin Again."

Who will win • Besides Best Picture, this is the only chance for the Academy to redeem itself and give something to "Selma."

Who should win • Common and John Legend manage something glorious with "Glory": They honor the civil-rights history depicted in "Selma," while also tying that history to today.
