The Mockingjay ruled at the Megaplex Theatres.

The Utah-based theater chain had four of the top 10 theaters in ticket sales for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1" on its opening weekend.

The Megaplex at Jordan Commons in Sandy ranked second nationwide. The Megaplex at Thanksgiving Point, Lehi, came in fifth; the Megaplex 20 at The District, South Jordan, ranked seventh; and the Megaplex 12 at The Gateway, in downtown Salt Lake City, came in 10th.

Exact figures were not disclosed.

The rankings are based on box-office revenue, explained Blake Andersen, president of Megaplex Theatres. Andersen added that the Utah locations likely sold more tickets, but prices at the Megaplex are lower than in theaters in Los Angeles or New York.

According to the number-crunching site Box Office Mojo, "Mockingjay" took in $121.9 million in North America over the three-day weekend. That's the biggest opening of the year — but well below what the first two "Hunger Games" movies earned in their first days.
