• The traditional lighting of the Christmas lights happens tonight at Temple Square, Main Street and South Temple, Salt Lake City. There is no official time for the switch to be flipped, to prevent a surge in the crowd at the big moment — but it will be shortly after dusk. Free.

• The interfaith Christmas concert "A Celebration of Christ" — featuring David Archuleta, Kevin Olusola (from the a cappella group Pentatonix) and the One Voice Children's Choir — happens tonight and Saturday at the Capitol Theatre, 50 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City. • Jazz pianist Dan Waldis and friends perform "A Little Jazz With Your Mistletoe," Waldis' 11th annual Christmas concert, tonight and Saturday in the Leona Wagner Black Box at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. 300 South, Salt Lake City. • Country singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson performs tonight at The State Room, 638 S. State St., Salt Lake City. Opening: Lucette. The show starts at 9 p.m., and is sold out.

• The Utah Jazz play host to the Los Angeles Clippers, Saturday at EnergySolutions Arena, 301 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Game starts at 7. Tickets, from $20 to $256, at Smith's Tix.

• The Utah Symphony's holiday tradition, the "Messiah" Sing-In, happens Saturday and Sunday at Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Thierry Fischer conducts; the audience is invited to sing along (and some members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir will be planted among Saturday's crowd). Tickets, from $10 to $32, at ArtTix.
