Nick Emery won't be the only left-handed guard handling the ball for the BYU men's basketball team next year, it appears.

Jahshire Hardnett, a 5-foot-11 point guard from a junior college in Florida, Chipola College, has committed to coach Dave Rose and the BYU program, according to his Twitter page.

"Proud to announce that I have decided to continue my academic/basketball career at the Brigham Young University!!," Hardnett tweeted Monday night

Hardnett is from Gulfport, Miss., and signed out of high school with Fordham University in New York City. He redshirted his first and only season at Fordham, then transferred to Chipola.

According to his profile on Fordham's website, Hardnett played his junior season of prep ball at Gulfport High in Mississippi. He transferred to Arlington Day School in Jacksonville, Fla., to start his senior season and averaged 13 points and five rebounds per game before transferring back to Gulfport in January. However, he was declared ineligible to compete for Gulfport his senior year, and that affected his recruitment.

At one time, Hardnett was a three-star recruit (ESPN) and had offers from Mississippi, Clemson, Penn State and UConn.

At Chipola last season, he averaged 13.2 points and 4.1 assists. He shot 43 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 56 percent from the field.

It will be interesting to see how the commitment from Hardnett affects the recruitment of Las Vegas guard Jerell Springer, a 6-foot-6 combo guard who was forced to skip his senior season of high school basketball.

Springer played for Shadow Ridge High in Vegas for three seasons, but was ruled ineligible as a senior when he attempted to transfer to Desert Pines High.

Barring another departure (Steven Beo, Jamal Aytes and Davin Guinn are leaving the program with eligibility remaining), BYU seemingly had one scholarship remaining before the Hardnett commitment.

Another one will open up if Eric Mika leaves early.

Mika worked out for the Utah Jazz, along with five other prospects, on Sunday morning. However, the workout was not open to the media.
