It appears that center Corbin Kaufusi is returning at the right time for the BYU basketball team.

Coach Dave Rose announced on his radio show Tuesday night that forward Kyle Davis will have season-ending knee surgery soon, thereby ending the senior's season, and career.

The 6-foot-10 Kaufusi re-joined the basketball team on Monday after spending the past six months with the football team.

Davis, a 6-8 product of Alta High who played collegiately at Southern Utah and Utah State before transferring to BYU, played in 10 games this season. He suffered the knee injury in the 114-101 loss to Utah Valley, then sat out of the Utah State game on Nov. 30.

He would play in the next four games, but his minutes gradually decreased as his condition worsened and he logged just three minutes in the 75-73 loss to Illinois on Dec. 17.

Davis did not play against Idaho State and CSU Bakersfield last week.

Davis was averaging 8.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, and will be missed by a BYU team struggling to meet expectations.

Kaufusi will certainly help BYU's frontline, and freshman Yoeli Childs will likely see even more time. Childs is averaging 8.4 points and 8.5 rebounds and has started in seven straight games.
