Before the 2015-16 BYU men's basketball season started, Danny Ainge's son — walk-on Crew Ainge — announced he was leaving the team to focus on academics.

Now Ainge's nephew is also leaving the school.

BYU confirmed on Tuesday via a short news release that sophomore guard Jake Toolson will transfer from the program.

The news wasn't a surprise; ESPN's Jeff Goodman first reported the transfer last week.

Also, Toolson was not with the team the last half of the season, having taken a medical leave of absence in December before BYU's tournament in Hawaii. At that time, Toolson was averaging 3.9 points and 1.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from 3-point range.

His final field goal as a Cougar came in the 98-85 win over Central Michigan, a 3-pointer.

"We appreciate all that Jake has done here at BYU," coach Dave Rose said in a statement. "We wish him all the beset as he moves forward with his career."

Toolson leaves on good terms, evidenced by his appearance at the BYU basketball awards banquet last week. He is engaged to be married, according to his Twitter account.

From Gilbert, Ariz., Toolson will likely look at schools in that area. His bio on BYU's website says he was also recruited by Arizona State, Boston College, Utah State and Saint Mary's out of Highland High in the Phoenix area.
