Accolades continued to roll in Tuesday morning for BYU freshman guard Nick Emery after his sensational performances last week in wins over San Francisco and Santa Clara.

A day after being named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for the first time, Emery was named the CBS Sports Freshman of the Week for all of Division I men's college basketball.

"It is time to give a shout-out to Cougar newbie Nick Emery … He is the clear-cut choice for Freshman of the Week," noted the CBSSports.com website.

Emery averaged 34.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 69.4 percent (25 of 36) from the field and 65 percent (13 of 20) from 3-point range.

Emery holds the BYU freshman records for 3-pointers in a season (70) and in a game (10) and the school's single-game scoring record for a freshman, having put 37 on San Francisco to eclipse Danny Ainge's record of 36 set in 1977-78.

BYU coach Dave Rose said Emery is answering expectations after a standout career at Lone Peak High and an LDS Church mission to Germany.

"I really felt like there's a lot of expectations on these guys, that when they do get that last pass, or that open shot, that they jump up and convert that for the rest of the guys. I think that when you do that, especially early in the game, when you do that, it gives everybody confidence. We shared it really well, we really did," Rose said after the Bay Area road sweep.

The Cougars play at San Diego on Thursday night, then play host to the Toreros on Saturday night at the Marriott Center.

"We just gotta keep building momentum. We gotta keep getting better from our mistakes," Emery said. "There were mistakes tonight, but our energy this whole entire week was different, and we just gotta carry that into other weeks."
