A native of Parker, Colo., BYU sophomore Cory Calvert was looking forward to facing Colorado last Saturday in Boulder.

But Calvert played only a few seconds in the waning moments of an eventual 92-83 loss to the Buffaloes, and on Monday he announced he is leaving the BYU basketball program.

"I am really appreciative of my time here at BYU," Calvert said in a school news release. "I'm grateful for the support from my coaches, teammates and our fans. I wish BYU the best of luck the rest of this season."

A 6-foot-3 guard, Calvert appeared in five games this season and scored five points and grabbed five rebounds. He played 26 minutes, but 15 of those were against Division II Adams State.

As a freshman, before an LDS mission to Boston, Calvert averaged 1.9 points and 0.9 rebounds in 2012-13.

"We're grateful for Cory's hard work and dedication," Rose said. "We wish him the very best with the rest of his collegiate career."

The Cougars' roster is now down to 14 players with the departures of walk-on Cooper Ainge and Calvert, who was a scholarship player.

Of the 14 players left, 12 are scholarship players and two — senior forward Nate Austin and freshman center Alan Hamson — are non-scholarship players.
