More indications came on Wednesday that BYU is headed to Las Vegas to play in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 19.

The latest report came from ESPN's Brett McMurphy, who says a "source told ESPN" that BYU will play in the bowl this year and play in the Hawaii Bowl in 2019, if the Cougars are bowl eligible then.

ESPN owns both bowls, so McMurphy's source, oddly enough, is probably his own employer.

Late Tuesday evening, BYU's ticketing website included a line to the Las Vegas Bowl for fans wishing to purchase tickets. But the school removed that link early Wednesday morning and said it was preparing links for both bowls and the Las Vegas Bowl link accidentally went live.

Which Pac-12 team BYU will face at 1:30 p.m. MST on Dec. 19 — neither BYU nor the Las Vegas Bowl had made an official announcement as of 4 p.m. Wednesday — is still unknown, but it almost certainly won't be UCLA.

Las Vegas Bowl executive director John Saccenti told me Tuesday that officials don't want a repeat game, and BYU already played UCLA this season, losing 24-23 at the Rose Bowl. Also, UCLA played UNLV in Las Vegas earlier this season as well.

"We are trying to avoid a repeat game at all costs," Saccenti said.

As far as my report on Monday that said Las Vegas Bowl officials' dream matchup was USC vs. BYU, Saccenti noted: "Well, wouldn't that be a great matchup for anybody? I don't think anybody would shoot that one down if it was put in front of them."

What about a BYU vs. Utah matchup? Last week, Saccenti was mostly skeptical about that, saying Utah visited Vegas last year, creamed Colorado State 45-10 and the television ratings weren't good. He said ESPN wasn't thrilled about televising a "regionalized" matchup.

He was much less skeptical on Tuesday, for whatever reason.

"We've been saying that [repeat appearances] are not great, but I am here to tell you that there are always exceptions to that rule," he said. "And people [tell] me all the time, 'you just had Utah, so you gotta avoid Utah.'

Yes, we would prefer to look in a different direction, but you gotta remember: Utah was No. 4 in the country. They are No. 20 in the country right now. They travel as well as anyone. They filled our stadium last year. And they were an absolute joy to work with. So, you don't necessarily want to discount the repeat because they did such a good job for us, and they have a really good team. So we are keeping that one on the table."
