The month of May has not started well for coach Bronco Mendenhall's football program. Last week, no BYU players were taken in the NFL draft. As has been well-documented on this blog and in other places, it was the third time in the past five years that no Cougar heard his name called.

Earlier this week, more bad news: As was rumored for several weeks, Snow College offensive lineman Garett Bolles confirmed to various outlets that he will not be keeping a commitment he made last fall to sign with BYU.

Bolles, a four-star recruit, told the Cougar Center Podcast that he has opened up his recruitment because of the offers that have come since he committed to BYU months ago.

His list of offers includes the likes of Alabama, Oregon, USC, Auburn, Oklahoma, Kansas State and Florida State.

Bolles, 23, played high school football at Westlake High in the Lehi/Eagle Mountain area, and served an LDS Church mission before enrolling at Snow College.

He is 6-foot-6 and weighs around 295 lbs. and will be a sophomore at Snow this upcoming season.

Bolles told Cougar Center that he has "nothing against BYU," but wants to explore his options and make sure he gets it right.

"I love the coaching there and they have done great things for me," he said. "…I am not ruling them out or anything. I just want to make sure the step that I am taking is the right one. … My relationship with the [coaches at BYU] is great."

He said he won't make a decision until after the 2015 season at Snow.

With Bolles' backing out, here's the updated list of BYU's 2016 football commitments:

Atunaisa Mahe, 6-1, 295 NT from West Jordan, Utah (West Jordan High School)

Jaren Hall, 6-1, 185 QB from Mapleton, Utah (Maple Mountain High School)

Hirkley Latu, 6-3, 200 DB from Kahuku, Hawaii (Kahuku High School)

Skyler Southam, 6-1, 180 K from Heber City, Utah (Wasatch High School)

Solofa Funa, 6-1, 220 DE from Spanish Fork, Utah (Spanish Fork High School)
