One of the greatest all-around athletes in BYU sports history, if not the greatest, has made her decision.

Jennifer Hamson will try her hand at professional basketball.

Monday, the 6-foot-7 Hamson signed a contract with the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA, the team that drafted her last year and then waited for her to finish her collegiate volleyball eligibility.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Sparks picked Hamson in the second round of the draft.

"Jennifer is an all-around athlete who will give us a great defensive presence around the basket," said Sparks executive vice president and general manager Penny Toler. "We look forward to seeing her develop into a solid player at both ends of the court."

Sparks head coach Brian Agler said Hamson has a great future in basketball.

"At this moment she has the ability to greatly impact a game at the defensive end and we look forward to helping her reach her potential," Agler said.
