BYU football coaches who have been out on the recruiting trail will go to sleep tonight with smiles on their faces, for the most part.

Groundhog Day ended Monday — two days before Signing Day — with the Cougars getting recommitments from two prized instate prospects and a couple new commitments from the big weekend that saw more than 20 recruits on campus.

It wasn't all perfect, however, as Timpview defensive end/linebacker Gabe Reid — who had narrowed his choices to Utah, BYU and Stanford — picked the Cardinal. That's not a huge surprise, however. BYU coaches have known they were longshots for Reid for several weeks.

Re-affirming their commitments to BYU on Monday were Hurricane linebacker Jeremiah Ieremia and Northridge cornerback Dayan Lake. Ieremia never really decommitted, but he did visit Utah State recently. Lake re-opened his recruitment two weeks ago after having committed to BYU more than 18 months ago and visited San Diego State.

In the end, though, Lake stayed with BYU.

As you can read here, the Cougars picked up four new commitments on Monday. At least, the commitments were made known on Monday — a couple actually let BYU coaches know they were going to be Cougars before they left Provo on Sunday, or shortly thereafter.

The new commits:

* J.J. Nwigwe, a 6-4, 260-pound lineman from Rockwall-Heath High in Texas.

* Jacob Jimenez, a 6-4, 275-pound offensive lineman form Pflugerville, Texas. Jimenez originally committed to Oregon State, but flipped because the Beavers changed head coaches, replacing Mike Riley with Gary Andersen.

* Trevor Brent, a 5-10, 165-pound defensive back from West Mesquite, Texas.

* Brady Christensen, a 6-5, 240-pound offensive lineman from Bountiful High in Utah. Christensen flipped from Air Force.
