It's finally here: The 2017 Sundance Film Festival starts tonight — so the "Trailer of the Day" feature ends with a laugh.

"Wilson" stars Woody Harrelson as the title character, a lonely misanthrope looking for some kind of connection. He thinks he finds it when he learns that his ex-wife Pippi (Laura Dern), did two things 17 years ago: Left Wilson, and put up their baby daughter for adoption.

Wilson finds the girl, Claire (Isabella Amara), and drags Pippi along in a desperate attempt to create an insta-family.

"Wilson" is based on the graphic novel by Daniel Clowes, who also wrote "Ghost World," and Clowes also wrote the screenplay. The director, Craig Johnson, wowed Sundance audiences in 2014 with his dysfunctional-sibling dramedy "The Skeleton Twins."

"Wilson," which Fox Searchlight has slated for a March 24 release in select cities, will debut in the festival's Premieres section. It will screen at the following times and venues:

• Sunday, Jan. 22, 3:15 p.m., Eccles Theatre, Park City.

• Monday, Jan. 23, 9 a.m., Library Center Theatre, Park City.

• Friday, Jan. 27, 6:15 p.m., The Grand Theatre, Salt Lake City.

• Saturday, Jan. 28, 9:30 p.m., Redstone Cinema 1, Park City.

• Sunday, Jan. 29, 10 a.m., Sundance Mountain Resort Screening Room.

The 2017 Sundance Film Festival runs Jan. 19-29 in Park City and at venues in Salt Lake City and the Sundance resort in Provo Canyon.
