If he had transferred to Colorado, as expected, former Texas Tech quarterback Davis Webb may have faced Utah in the final game of the 2016 regular-season. That timetable could be moved up a couple of months.  Webb is joining the California program, Fox Sports reported Wednesday. So instead of providing competition and insurance for Colorado starter Sefo Liufau, Webb will launch himself into an immediate battle for the job of replacing Jared Goff at Cal. The Bears will host Utah on Oct. 1. Webb passed for 44 touchdowns and more than 5,000 total yards in his first two seasons at Texas Tech, but was displaced last season and posted only 300 yards.  During the Pac-12 coaches' spring media teleconference, Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre said he spoke to Webb almost daily and was counting on him to come to Boulder, while lamenting how NCAA rules enabled other coaches to keep recruiting him.  – Kurt Kragthorpe
