The most successful sport at BYU, year in and year out, might just be women's softball.

The Cougars wrapped up their eighth-straight conference championship — spanning four different conferences — last week with a 1-0 win over San Diego in 12 innings. It was BYU's third-straight West Coast Conference title. The Cougars remain the only team to have won the WCC women's softball title, since the conference added the sport in 2014.

On Sunday, coach Gordon Eakin's highly successful program learned it will be playing in the Columbia, Missouri, regional of the NCAA Tournament. It will be BYU's 12th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and 13th overall.

BYU (35-19) will meet No. 15 seed Missouri (39-14) on Thursday at 7 p.m. MDT in a first-round game. Nebraska (33-19) and Louisville (35-15) are also in the regional, which is a double-elimination format.

It will be a rematch of a game played at the Mary Nutter Classic in which Mizzou took a 16-6 win over the Cougars. Libby Sugg slugged a two-run homer in that contest.

"We are excited to be a part of this year's NCAA Tournament," BYU coach Gordon Eakin said. "We are equally excited to play in a great regional with three great opponents. It will be a challenge, but that is what the NCAA Tournament is."

BYU played in the Eugene Regional last year, beating Fresno State before falling to No. 1 overall seed Oregon and No. 24 North Dakota State.
