Superman finally makes an appearance in this week's episode of "Supergirl" (7 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2). Sort of.

Well, it's Kal El when he was a kid. And it's not actually real. A parasitic alien traps Kara in a dream world where her family is alive and her home planet was never destroyed.

Also tonight, there's an outstanding — and pivotal — episode of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" (7 p.m., CW/Ch. 30). Rebecca accidentally sends a text to Josh that she meant for Paula, and she's desperate to keep Josh from seeing it. It's hilarious and heart-breaking — and there's a wonderful subplot about Paula and her husband trying to rekindle their relationship.

If you want to wallow in angst, there's "The X-Files" (7 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13). It's been years, but Scully is still all torn up inside about the child she gave up for adoption.

That's three shows all airing at the same time … proving once again that the DVR is one of the greatest inventions ever.
