James Harden might enjoy the spotlight.
But the flashlight?
Not so much.
When the Rockets’ All-Star guard stepped to the free throw line late in the third quarter Monday night, something in the crowd got his attention.
I noticed a flash and figured it was a fan taking an ill-advised photo. So did Harden.
Turns out it was something more.
"Some guy was lasering me," Harden said, according to the Houston Chronicle. "I saw it the first time and I thought it was a picture being taken. I went to the foul line again and it happened again. The referee caught it before I did. That’s the first time that happened to me."
The game was stopped for several minutes while ushers and arena security looked for the perpetrator. In the end, it was a fan with a flashlight who was found to be the culprit, according to a Jazz official. The fan was escorted out of the arena and will receive a one-year ban from NBA arenas.
Harden, meanwhile, went on to score a game-high 30 points and dish out seven assist in a 93-91 win for the Rockets.
