Clearly, a lot of the focus for tonight's Michigan-at-Utah college football game (6:30 p.m., Fox Sports 1) will be on the Wolverines' new coach, Jim Harbaugh.

But Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt, who will be working the game, has a lot of good things to say about the Utes.

"Utah made such great strides a year ago," he told The Tribune. "Ranked No. 21 in the final poll. Nine wins. Their best year in the Pac-12.

"[Coach] Kyle Whittingham has, to a large degree, turned the corner in regards to how he plays and recruits and builds his program. They've gotten really integrated now into this conference, which I think is the best conference in the country. And Utah fits in what I would call the best division in the country in the Pac-12 South."

A lot of people who tune in to tonight's matchup — the pregame begins at 5 p.m. — might not even be aware that Utah beat Michigan in Ann Arbor a year ago.

"And won handily," Klatt said. "I think that needs to be said. The score [26-14], I felt, was closer than what the game indicated. And this is, I think, the perfect opportunity for Utah to show America just how good they are.

"People, for whatever they are, have written off Utah. This is a team that has two BCS victories since 2000, two undefeated seasons since 2000. They beat Alabama in a bowl game. Now they've integrated themselves into the best division in college football with toughness and a great running back that I think is a Heisman-calibre player in Devontae Booker."

Four of the other five teams in the Pac-12 South — Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA and USC — are all ranked.

"And Utah is right on the precipice of being ranked," Klatt said. "That's the thing. Utah is part of that discussion. It's not just — oh, boy, we play in a really tough division. Utah is one of the team that makes it one of the toughest divisions in America.

"No one wants to go to Salt Lake and play. It is a wonderful environment. And I think that's going to be really showcased come Thursday night."

I would certainly argue that Utah-Michigan is the biggest college football game on TV tonight. But there are others, including Florida International at Central Florida (4 p.m., CBSSN); North Carolina vs. South Carolina (4 p.m., ESPN); Oklahoma State at Central Michigan (5 p.m., ESPNU); Western Kentucky at Vanderbilt (6 p.m., SEC Network); TCU at Minnesota (7 p.m., ESPN); Duke at Tulane (7:30 p.m., ESPNU); Texas-San Antonio at Arizona (8 p.m., Pac-12 Network); Colorado at Hawaii (11 p.m., CBSSN)
