Salt Lake City's new Eccles Theater has its first confirmed booking: "The Lion King."

The live stage rendition of the Disney classic will open at the now-under-construction George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theater in spring 2017, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker announced Thursday.

The theater, at 151 S. Main St. in downtown Salt Lake City, is set to open in the fall of 2016. The full inaugural season will be announced soon.

"The Lion King," McAdams said in prepared remarks, "is a Utah favorite, and an example of the award-winning entertainment that patrons can expect from the Eccles Theater."

At Thursday's press conference, officials also unveiled the theater's official name and logo.
