"Racing Extinction"

HHH

U.S. Documentary

The breadth of Louie Psihoyos' environmental documentary "Racing Extinction" is wide — the fate of animal species around the planet — and the overall impact is forceful. Psihoyos tells several stories at once, depicting the plight of species big and small endangered by climate change, overfishing and other human-caused maladies. The hidden-camera footage of Psihoyos and cohorts infiltrating black-market seafood markets in Hong Kong echo his work on "The Cove," and bring a sense of immediacy to the familiar save-the-planet arguments. And even with the movie's serious themes, Psihoyos adds a bit of fun, conspiring with a projection artist and a race-car driver to create a portable way to deliver a striking and positive message.
