Derek Hough is trading in another shot at the mirror ball for a chance to dance with the Rockettes.

Hough, a Utah native, has announced he is skipping season 20 of ABC's reality-competition show "Dancing With the Stars," airing in the spring.

Instead, Hough has signed on to perform in "New York Spring Spectacular," the new production at Radio City Music Hall. The production begins previews on March 12, and runs through May 3.

Hough plays the male lead, Jack, an angelic figure who is assigned to help Bernie, a New York tour guide whose job is endangered when his company's new owner, Jenna (played by "Nashville's" Laura Benanti), unveils a plan to make the tour virtual.

The role of Bernie is yet to be cast, but the production will feature celebrity cameos by Carmelo Anthony, Donald Trump, Martha Stewart, Henrik Lundqvist and others. Whoopi Goldberg will provide the voice of the Statue of Liberty, and Bella Thorne will give voice to the Alice in Wonderland statue. And, of course, the Rockettes are a major part of the show.

Hough is a five-time winner of "Dancing With the Stars'" mirror-ball trophy, most recently helping "Glee" star Amber Riley to the title. Hough also has an Emmy, from 2013, for choreography on the show.
