Mike Andrews, a popular and colorful umpire who officiated dozens of Utah high school and American Legion baseball tournaments died recently. He was 68.

Andrews, known for his hustle and evocative calls, umpired a record 57 high school championship games over a long career where he also served as a mentor and a teacher to many other officials.

In a career that spanned 45 years, he umpired Little League, Babe Ruth, American Legion, high school and NCAA Division I college games and tournaments.

He also recorded many firsts, including being the first Utah umpire asked to work the Junior College World Series.

He was named the Utah Umpire of the Year in 2010.
