The Utah Film Center has a new boss.

Elisabeth Nebeker — former marketing director of Broadway Across America Utah, and a onetime press officer for the Sundance Film Festival — has been named executive director of the Salt Lake City-based nonprofit film organization. She started work today.

In a statement, Nebeker called the Utah Film Center "a dynamic organization, and I'm honored to have been selected to continue to support existing programming and explore new growth opportunities."

Nebeker succeeds Holly Yocom, who left the film center to take a post in Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams' administration.

Geralyn Dreyfous, founder and board chair of the film center, said in a statement, "the board of directors is fully confident that Elisabeth will be an excellent steward of the Utah Film Center's mission, a leader and advocate for independent voices, and will develop rich and meaningful relationships with Utah Film Center supporters and partners."

The Utah Film Center presents free movie programming every week, with topics ranging from documentaries to international fare. It also has touring film presentations in Park City, West Jordan, Ogden, Moab, Price and other locations.

The Utah Film Center also runs two major film festivals in Salt Lake City: Damn These Heels!, Utah's LGBT film festival; and the Tumbleweeds Film Festival for children and teens. (Tumbleweeds also assists in programming the Sundance Film Festival's Sundance Kids program, going into its second year in January.)
