Auburn Hills, Mich. • Rodney Hood dribbled a basketball on a corner of the court at the Palace this morning, his right foot in a protective walking boot.

Hood left the game after one quarter Friday night against Dallas. Now plantar fasciitis will keep the Jazz rookie out of tonight's matchup with the Detroit Pistons, though how long the injury might linger remains to be seen.

"I know it can be painful," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said. "But hopefully it will respond to treatment. We've got a great training staff. They caught. Even the other night, they [knew] he needed to get out of there and get healthy."

Through six games, Hood is averaging just four points and only connecting on about 27 percent of his attempts. But when he's on, the rookie forward can be a potent deep threat.

With Hood out Friday, Snyder played point guards Trey Burke and Dante Exum together for the first time in the regular season. It's a combination Snyder and the Jazz believe can work, and one he might go to again tonight against Detroit.

"I would think anything's open right now as far as what our group looks like," Snyder said. "We could match small at times with [Pistons guards D.J. Augustin and Brandon Jennings]."

Burke, who played college ball not far from here and will enjoy something of a homecoming tonight, likes the combo with Exum.

"I'm comfortable playing with Dante," he said. "I can play off the ball some and vice versa. It's something that will definitely benefit us with two guys who can handle the ball and push the ball in transition. We just have to continue to build our chemistry."
