Eleven things to watch after ‘Stranger Things’

Television • There’s nothing quite like it, but there are shows with certain similarities.<br>

You’ve finished watching both seasons of “Stranger Things.” You’re looking for something else to watch, maybe binge, that’s like “Stranger Things.”

Yeah, well, there really isn’t anything exactly like “Stranger Things.” No other horror series centering on young teens in the 1980s that runs eight (Season 1) or nine (Season 2) episodes.

Nothing exactly like that to watch with your kids. Your teenagers, that is. “Stranger Things” is pretty much PG-13, with some adult language, sexual situations and violence. Plus, it’s really scary in spots.

I can’t give you anything that’s super close. But in honor of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), here are 11 shows that, one way or another, share the spirit of “Stranger Things.”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer” • Teenagers fighting monsters? Look no further than “Buffy.” And, weirdly, Buffy and her pals are among the most realistic high schoolers in TV history. Seven seasons; 143 episodes. (Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, iTunes and DVD)

Eerie, Indiana” • A middle schooler moves to Eerie, Ind., and all sorts of weirdness ensues. It’s funny, sometimes scary and very entertaining. And “Stranger Things” is set in Indiana, too. One season; 19 episodes. (Amazon, iTunes and DVD)

Freaks and Geeks” • There’s absolutely nothing supernatural about this high-school comedy/drama, but there’s a certain parallel in feel. And, as on “Stranger Things,” the storylines involve younger teens, older teens and parents. One season; 18 episodes.(Netflix, DVD and Blu-ray)

Granite Flats” • In the early 1960s, kids investigate strange happenings that might be the work of Russian spies — or could it be aliens from outer space? This BYUtv series is good. Three seasons; 24 episodes. (Netflix)

Heroes” • This series about disparate people who develop superpowers became a bit of a phenomenon, but I’m sort of reluctant to recommend it because it went off the rails in Season 2. So if you do watch, just stop after Season 1 and tell yourself that Sylar is dead. Five seasons (including “Heroes: Reborn”; 68 episodes. (Amazon, iTunes, DVD and Blu-ray)

The Misfits” • Five young delinquents sentenced to community service are caught in a weird electrical storm and acquire supernatural powers in this 2009-13 British series. Five seasons; 38 episodes. (Amazon, Hulu, iTunes, DVD and Blu-ray)

Roswell” • In this 1999-2002 series, which aired on the defunct network The WB, some of the teenagers are aliens. It’s all about teen angst made more angsty when you’re a survivor of an alien spaceship that crashed on Earth. Three seasons; 61 episodes. (Amazon, Hulu, iTunes and DVD)

The Strain” • A decidedly different kind of vampire threatens to take over the world in this series, which just wrapped up in September. It’s scary, violent and often gory, and it features one of the most evil kids in TV history. There is a definite conclusion. Four seasons; 46 episodes. (Amazon, Hulu, iTunes and DVD)

Super 8” • This movie is probably more like “Stranger Things” than anything else. Set in 1979, it’s about a group of teens who, while making a home movie, are there when a train derails and releases something scary into their small town. It is just a 112-minute movie, however, so there’s no possibility of bingeing. (Amazon, iTunes, DVD and Blu-ray)

Supernatural” • Brothers battle all sorts of supernatural monsters, beginning with things thought to be urban legends and building up to Satan himself. This would take you forever to binge — it’s currently airing its 13th season — and it kind of runs out of steam after maybe Season 7. Although darned if Season 13 doesn’t have some renewed energy. 13 seasons; 273 episodes — and counting. (Netflix, Amazon, iTunes, DVD and Blu-ray)

Wayward Pines” • Before the Duffer Brothers made “Stranger Things,” they made this show. An FBI agent finds himself trapped in a small Idaho town from which he cannot escape — and things are a lot weirder than they seem. It becomes far less interesting after the Big Reveal, but you may enjoy it. Two seasons; 20 episodes.(Amazon, Hulu, iTunes, DVD nand Blu-Ray)
