As part of the stroll, Phoenix Gallery presents new work by Olivia "Holly" Mae Pendergast, whose new work is "Portraits of Malawi." The artist and the gallery will donate a portion of the proceeds from sales to ship paperback children's books to a Malawi orphanage. Barter for a raffle ticket by donating two paperback children's books (can be gently used). The show will hang at the Phoenix Gallery, 508 Main St., Park City, through July 11. For more information, please contact 435-640-3831.
Red-y for art: Local Colors of Utah hosts "Shades of Red" through July 15. The show features work in one color by all members of the gallery. The gallery's new address is 535 S. 700 East, Salt Lake City, across from Trolley Square. For information, call 801-363-3922.
Let's go to Sego: In conjunction with its exhibit "Lamborghinis, Sacs, and The Senior Captain of the Wilderness Brethren," The Sego Art Center presents its inaugural monthly artist lecture and discussion on Thursday. The public is invited to the free event, which features a discussion led by curator Jason Metcalf with artists Allan Ludwig, Beccy Neely and Gian Pierotti, followed by light refreshments. For information, call 801-599-0680 or e-mail segoartcenter@gmail .com. The Sego Art Center is at 169 N. University Ave., Provo.
Body work: The Leonardo is accepting proposals for a large-scale temporary multimedia art installation planned in conjunction with September's "Body Worlds 3: The Original Exhibition of Real Human Bodies and The Story of the Heart." The selected artist will receive an exhibition fee of $5,000 and up to $1,000 in project assistance. Artists may send proposals for an installation planned for the 18-by-30-foot atrium/lobby. The Leonardo is especially interested in innovative and contemporary work. For information about how to submit work, call 801-230-9399 or visit www.theleonardo.org. Proposals are due by July 25. The Leonardo is at 210 E. 400 South, Suite 14, Salt Lake City.
New arrivals: Thomas Alder of Williams Gallery writes that he has just received "some very interesting historical paintings," including LeConte Stewart's 1940s "Christmas Eve" (out of season but "it's never too early to plan," Alder says) and "a lovely work of hay bundles" by John B. Fairbanks. Fairbanks' painting was likely created in 1890 in Paris, when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent him and other art missionaries to study at the Académie Julian, Alder writes. Beyond selling these historic works by Utah artists, the gallery is holding a 30 percent off sale beginning at noon Friday through July 2. Alder writes that more than 100 paintings will be marked down "to help compensate for the increase in gas prices." A noble gesture, indeed, at Williams Fine Art, 200 E. South Temple, Suite 100, Salt Lake City. For information, call 801-534-0331. And don't forget to carpool or ride your bike.
Silver anniversary: "A" Gallery's 25th anniversary takes place beginning Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. While receptions such as these often take place on the night of Salt Lake Gallery Stroll, this one is the last Saturday in the month of June. The show continues at the gallery, 1321 S. 2100 East, through July 28. For more information and gallery hours, call 801-583-4800.
