Artists' seminar: The Utah Arts Council will present an evening seminar for visual artists, "Preparing for Your Exhibit," Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the upstairs Zephyr Room of the Rio Grande Depot, 300 S. 455 West, Salt Lake City. The seminar will feature Amanda Finlayson, programming and development manager for Art Access Gallery, and local artist Joey Behrens discussing how artists should best plan to exhibit their work. Historic fiber art: The American West Heritage Center will present its inaugural Fiber Arts Week, Tuesday through Saturday at the center along Highway 89 in Wellsville. Visiting artists from the Northern Utah Fiber Arts Guild (NUFA) will be on hand to demonstrate all manner of textile arts. A different natural fiber will be featured on each of the days: Tuesday, wool; Wednesday, cotton; Thursday, silk; and Friday, flax. On Saturday, NUFA guild members will divide into teams for a "Wool to Whatever" contest in which teams will be given the same raw materials and challenged to complete a finished article by the end of the day. Garden of Eaton: A major show of 50 of Valoy Eaton's recent paintings will open with a reception Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Williams Fine Art's new gallery, 200 E. South Temple, Suite 100, Salt Lake City. The entrance to the gallery is on the south side of the building, where parking is free. Light refreshments will be served in the adjoining garden, and U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch is expected to attend the opening as a special guest. The show will be on display until Sept. 5. Yo soy Ruby: "Yo Soy . . . ," an exhibition of Latin-themed paintings by Salt Lake City artist Ruby Chacón, will open with a reception Saturday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Main Library, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City. Also opening at the library that day will be "Joyous Celebration without Frontiers," an exhibition of photographs by Guadalupe Rodriguez. The shows run through Sept. 29.
Fiestas at Red Butte: "Flowers and Fiestas," an exhibition of works by internationally recognized and emerging Mayan artists, kicks off with an open house Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at Red Butte Garden, 300 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City. Miguel Rodriguez, a Mayan storyteller from the Guatemalan highlands, will give a 2 p.m. talk about Mayan legends associated with these works of art. The artworks include original oil paintings, quilts, table linens and other items, all provided by A.M. Stein Imports of Salt Lake City. The exhibit is free and will continue through Sept. 4.
