Grand opening: Local Colors of Utah, which has relocated from Trolley Square to 535 S. 700 East, will host a grand opening reception Friday, 6-9 p.m., for artists exhibiting new works in a group show. Partners in art: The 13th Annual Partners Exhibit, featuring works by seven emerging artists - many with disabilities - and their professional-artist mentors, opens with a reception Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Art Access Gallery, 230 S. 500 West #125 in Salt Lake City. The show will hang through Sept. 13. Participating this year are emerging artists Cori Redstone, Roger Reeves, Blake Palmer, Joe Fairbanks, Josee Pribbanaw, George Salerno and Deena Lee. Now hear this: "Audioptic," an interactive "sound art" project featuring works by Utah artists Jason Metcalf and Conrad Nebeker, opens with a reception Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Rio Gallery, 300 S. 455 West, Salt Lake City. Metcalf and Nebeker created the art installation with help from Hales Swift, Wayne Madsen, Tim Leishman and Brian Christensen.
Funky fashion: "Beauty and Decay," a showing of photographs by Capree Kimball, will headline Friday's opening of the newly expanded Saans Downtown art gallery at 173 E. Broadway (300 South), Salt Lake City. The gallery will host a public reception from 6 to 10 p.m. This is the first show for what the 23-year-old BYU graduate calls her "atypical" fashion photography. New gallery: Sand, Stone and Canvas, a new gallery in Salt Lake City's Sugar House neighborhood, celebrates its grand opening with a public reception Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at 1064 E. 2100 South #14. Family art day: The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is hosting a free family day Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. in conjunction with "Passion for Form," its current exhibition of Southeastern Asian art. Public-art ideas needed: Art in Transit, the public art program for Utah's light rail and commuter rail, announces two opportunities for Utah artists to create public art at future TRAX stations along the new spur to the Salt Lake Intermodal Hub. The two stations are the Planetarium Station at 150 S. 400 West and the Old Greek Town station at 200 S. 550 West. Each commission has a budget of $90,000. Artists are asked to submit a preliminary proposal that addresses TRAX operations, the character of the neighborhood and urban-design aspects of west downtown Salt Lake City.
