Toast to Good Health' good for $30 grand for medical supplies
Friends of Salt Lake City's Fourth Street Clinic raised $30,000 earlier this month during "A Toast to Good Health" fundraiser.
In triple-digit heat, some 100 guests mingled on the patio at Tuscany restaurant in Holladay, moving between food and wine offerings and the cooling misters. Each of the six culinary stations offered a different appetizer, prepared by chef Adam Vickers, and wine from around the world including Spain, Argentina, New Zealand and Italy.
Two favorite food-and-wine combinations came from Napa Valley. A 2000 Judd Hill Estate Cabernet blend was served with canneloni stuffed with pork, mushroom and fresh herbs, while the 2004 Flora Springs Chardonnay was a light summer pairing for the "4th Street Roll." The egg roll filled with salmon, carrots, English cucumber and wasabi caviar was created especially for the evening event.
Printed recipe cards for each appetizer were available as take-home souvenirs. One lucky guest won the drawing for a case of wine.
The Fourth Street Clinic, 404 S. 400 West, provides health care and support services to Utah homeless population, said Allan Ainsworth, executive director. Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase medical supplies, particularly for the 250 diabetic-education patients in need of glucometer testing strips and insulin syringes.
