The Museum of Utah Art & History, 125 S. Main St., Salt Lake City, is displaying the drawings of Albert Tissandier through June 30. In an age of digital cameras and cell phones, Tissandier's 55 original drawings show America's rural and industrial landscape, including Salt Lake City, in 1885-86. The show is at the museum, 125 S. Art for detox: The American Detoxification Foundation and Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff will hold a benefit for the police, sheriff's deputies and firefighters who have been affected by toxic chemicals while trying to shut down illegal methamphetamine labs. Local artists' work will be for sale, accompanied by live music. All money raised will send Utah officers and firefighters to a detoxification program in New York City. Meet Monet: Brigham Young University Museum of Art presents "Family Art Days," a celebration of art with activities introducing children to the work of Claude Monet, the Impressionist movement and other Impressionist artists. A trio at Phillips: New work by Michael Mogus, Marwan Nahel and Susan Slade is on display at the Phillips Gallery on Friday through July 16. Working mostly in steel, Mogus explores the world of formal abstraction by creating pieces using diagonal lines, tilting planes and balls that appear to be caught in mid-motion. Nahel paints mystic, abstracted figures, typically women or angles. Slade's paintings incorporate flowing looking letters from ancient alphabets. Free.
Two new exhibits: Art Access Gallery presents two new exhibits: "Contours," a group exhibition featuring the work of 11 diverse women artists from Utah. The show runs Friday through July 13. The other exhibit is "Body Archives," photography by Amy Jorgensen that uses photographic emulsion, without the camera, on the surface of her body to show it is an active participant in the artistic process. Her work will be displayed Friday through July 15. Both shows will be at the gallery, 230 S. 500 West, Salt Lake City. Regular hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free.
