Horne celebrates spring with 'A Walk in the Park'

"A Walk in the Park," a group show celebrating the pleasures of moving outdoors with spring's warmer weather, continues through May 25 at Horne Fine Art, 142 E. 800 South in Salt Lake City. The show contains paintings of such Salt Lake City locales as Liberty Park and the Avenues neighborhood along with scenes of patios, pools and gardens. Prodigy painter: Realist paintings by Akiane, a 12-year-old artist prodigy from northern Idaho, will be on display through June 2 at Patrick Moore Gallery, 511 W. 200 South in Salt Lake City. Akiane also writes poetry and composes music, and has appeared on "Oprah," "Good Morning America" and many other TV shows. The gallery exhibition will feature more than 40 of Akiane's limited-edition prints depicting spiritual themes with hopeful messages. Painter at work: The Intermountain Society of Artists will host a painting demonstration by Utah figurative painter Michael Malm on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Wheeler Historic Farm, 5391 S. 900 East in Murray. Trained at Dixie College and Utah State University, Malm lives in Cache Valley and is represented in several galleries across the southwest; to view his work visit www.michaelmalm.com. Pottery demonstration: Westminster's School of Art and Sciences will present a free pottery demonstration by Felipe Ortega on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Eccles Ceramic Center, 1840 S. 1300 East in Salt Lake City. Attendees are encouraged to pack a lunch and watch as Ortega displays his talent in traditional pottery techniques. Ortega traces his roots back to the Jicarilla Apache and Hispanic settlers of northern New Mexico, and his work is showcased in a permanent exhibit in Santa Fe.

Bountiful show: A show of works by members of the Intermountain Society of Artists opens Friday with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bountiful/Davis Art Center, 745 South Main St. in Bountiful. The ISA was established in 1969 and currently has more than 160 members in the intermountain region, working in such media as oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, abstract and sculpture. Submitted artworks were juried by Bountiful artist and teacher Lester Lee. The show opens with a companion exhibit of photographs by Utah high school students. Both exhibits will remain through June 8.

Volunteers needed: The Bountiful Davis Art Center is seeking Davis County residents interested in providing housing for performers attending the Bountiful Summerfest International Aug. 6-11. The center is also looking for a volunteer to help coordinate transportation, housing and other services for visiting festival performers.
