Sun, scenery, sound: Mountain Town Stages presents a summer full of free performances in various Summit County venues. On the docket this week:

l There's a doubleheader at Park City's Miners Park Plaza, 415 Main St., today: J. Nelson Ramsey plays alternative folk at 1 p.m., with jazz-rock pianist Rich Wyman at 3:15. Saturday, guitarist Junior plays blues and classic rock at 1 p.m., followed by the blues, jazz and rock of Smokin' Ed Hubble at 3:15. On July 31, it's folk guitarist Carl Tosten at 1 p.m. and blues-rock guitarist Melissa Reaves at 3:15.

l ThaMuseMeant plays bluegrass, Celtic and folk music Tuesday at 6 p.m. on the plaza at 890 Main St., Park City. Black River Brethren plays alternative bluegrass and country there Friday; Kelly V plays blues, classic rock and country Saturday.

l Conspiracy Freak will play alternative blues and folk Friday at 6 p.m. at La Casita, 700 Main St., Park City; Richard Olsen and the Rough Cut Band play country Saturday.

l Sally Shuffield plays country and folk Friday at 6 p.m. in Peoa's Woodenshoe Park.

l Big Sandy and His Fly Rite Boys play bluegrass, country and blues at The Canyons Resort Village at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Davis ditties: The Davis Arts Council presents free concerts Sundays at 7 p.m. in the Kenley Centennial Amphitheater, 403 N. Wasatch Drive, Layton. Orange Blossom Special puts on a display of "fancy fiddling" and bluegrass tonight; concertgoers can "Sing Along With 'The Sound of Music' " July 31.

Pleasant sounds: Joan and Ken Hardman will give a free concert tonight at 7:30 in the parking lot of the Pleasant Grove Recreation Center, 200 S. 100 East. Bring blankets and chairs; spectator seating is on the grass adjacent to the lot. Concerts continue weekly through Aug. 21; Harold Newman performs July 31.

Lunch Bunch: The free Lunch Bunch concert series at the Gallivan Center, 239 S. Main St., Salt Lake City, continues with noon concerts: Monday, Charlie Webb, country and Southern rock; Tuesday, Michael Lucarelli, classical guitar; Wednesday, Fred Ingram, acoustic; Thursday, Stacey Board, singer-songwriter; Friday, Gina French, acoustic-based blues, folk, world and pop.

Nothing but blue skies: C B Jazz plays on Provo's free Blue Sky Concert Series, Monday at 7 p.m. in Pioneer Park, 500 W. Center. Concertgoers receive discount admission at the city pool that evening.

Real McCoy: Country singer Neal McCoy will perform at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre, 699 S. State, Orem, Monday at 8 p.m. Brenda Burch opens the show. Tickets are $15; $10 for children 3-11, students with ID and seniors 65 and older.

Murray melodies: The Murray Arts Council presents free concerts every Tuesday at noon in Murray Park Pavilion No. 5, 5300 S. State St., Murray. Last Night's Fun performs Celtic music this week.

The council also presents free entertainment for children, Fridays at 2 p.m. in the park's gazebo. There will be a Western hoedown this week.

In the bag: The Salt Lake City Arts Council's Brown Bag Concert Series continues with free 12:15 p.m. performances at City Creek Park, northeast corner of North Temple and State streets, Salt Lake City. This week's lineup: Tuesday, Debi Graham Band, acoustic rock; Wednesday, Charley Simmons, acoustic finger-style guitar; Thursday, Marv Hamilton Band, acoustic blues; Friday, Aphrodesia, 12-piece Afrobeat ensemble from San Francisco.

Getting creative: Utah Festival Opera presents Haydn's oratorio "The Creation" Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Ellen Eccles Theatre, 43 S. Main, Logan. Tickets are $9 to $39.

Also at the festival, Utah Poet Laureate Kenneth Brewer will give a free 45-minute literary seminar on "Kismet" Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Ellen Eccles Theatre.

Productions of "Turandot," "Kismet," "The Crucible" and "Annie Get Your Gun" continue in Ellen Eccles Theatre through Aug. 6; see http://www.ufoc.org for tickets and showtimes.

In the park: The Temple Square Concert Series presents free outdoor performances at 8 p.m. in the Brigham Young Historic Park, southeast corner of North Temple and State streets in downtown Salt Lake City.

Female trio Heartbound plays contemporary and inspirational tunes Tuesday.

l A-cappella singers T Minus 5 perform Friday.

For locals, by locals: The Park City Performing Arts Foundation presents a summer series of free concerts featuring area performers Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at Deer Valley Resort's outdoor amphitheater at Snow Park Lodge. John Boy's Mule performs this week.

It's alive: Way Way East Bay headlines the weekly Come Alive Concert Series with a free performance Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Gallivan Plaza, 239 S. Main St., Salt Lake City. Terence Hansen's VoID of Course opens the show.

By the books: The Salt Lake City Library system presents free weekly concerts at two branches.

Sally Sutterfield plays country, pop and rock Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Anderson-Foothill Branch, 1135 S. 2100 East.

The Royal Heritage Ensemble plays Latin, folk and international music Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sprague Branch, 2131 S. 1100 East.

Twilight time: Big Head Todd and the Monsters perform on the free Twilight Concert Series, Thursday at 7 p.m. on Gallivan Plaza, 239 S. Main St., Salt Lake City. Anne McCue opens the show.

Battalion benefit: Violinists Sarah Moench and Josh Loaner will perform a benefit concert Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Peter Prier recital hall, 320 E. 200 South, Salt Lake City. Suggested donation is $9. Proceeds will help secure a Mormon Battalion building at This Is the Place Heritage Park.

On the square: The Saltaires Show Chorus sings barbershop tunes Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square, Salt Lake City. Admission is free.
