"I've never made a page about New Year's resolutions before, so I really had to sit down and think about it. To put the goals on paper somehow makes it more real and something to strive to achieve."

Holly moved from Aurora, Colo., to Japan nearly 18 years ago with the intention of staying only one year, but she met a local boy, got married and is still there. She started paper scrapping more than 10 years ago, before scrapbooking was even heard of in Japan, and discovered digital scrapbooking a year later.

"Scrapbooking is just catching on in Japan now and finally we can buy some supplies in craft stores. I started teaching scrapbooking to some neighborhood ladies about two years ago so in some ways I feel like I have played some small part of bringing American culture to my little corner of Japan."

Buy the Book

Cleary Classy Albums (Design Originals, $12.99)

Don't let the size of this book -- 36 pages -- fool you. It's packed with tips and design ideas for making and decorating clear albums with transparent pages using rub-ons, transparency overlays, markers, stickers, flowers, brads, ribbons, embellishments and everything clear.

Try This

Using markers and a brayer, you can add stripes, dots, even plaid designs to your layouts. Draw the design of your choice to the brayer and then roll across paper or embellishments. Be sure to wash the ink off the brayer right away.

One for the Money

Need to trim paper to fit chipboard letters or give the edges of your layout a shabby chic look? Try using an emory board or nail file. They work well for getting into tight spaces.
