Quilts in the round
Kaye Evans of Ogden loves quilts, all right. So much so that she hatched an extensive round robin network of quilters-- from artists in Arizona, Californa, Idaho, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming -- who sent her blocks she assembled and bound. The end result, a beguiling array of scenes and colors, is on display in "Tribute to Friendship: Quilting Round Robin," at the Brigham City Museum-Gallery.

All in one sitting
At first glance, the paintings of Daniel Ochoa look a lot like those of the British artist Francis Bacon, but with a lot more light and fresh air. It's their intricacy of surface, however, that give Ochoa's paintings the promise of a master painter in the making. His new series of paintings, "The Cuarto," is comprised of large-scale portraits and figures of a sitting person. If that sounds dull, don't be fooled. Each contains enough vigorous angles of observation and bracing technique to offer real heft and punch. This is a not to be missed exhibition.

Letting the dogs out
Five years ago, the artists' theme for this Park City benefit was the moose. This year's auction -- a benefit for the Park City Performing Arts Foundation, Friends of Animals and Mountain Trails Foundation -- has gone to the dogs. "The Dogs of Bark City" gathers 36 dog sculptures in three different sizes to auction them off during a gala at St. Regis Resort. Participating artists include Marin Abell, Khelly Agee, Leslie Howa, Mark Huber, Stacy Phillips, Roger Whiting and Kristine Zanno.
