'Messiah,' the gospel version

Grand Theatre's eighth annual "Messiah: A Community Celebration" features an 18-piece orchestra and a jazz/gospel/pop sound still rooted in Handel's Baroque tradition, says producer Richard Scott. The event will feature the Salt Lake Community College Concert Choir, a community gospel choir, soloists including Ginger Bess, Kelly Griffiths and Dee-Dee Darby Duffin, and narrators the Rev. France Davis, the Rev. Tom Goldsmith, Marian Howe Taylor and David Ibarra. The choirs will be conducted by Anthony Bennett and SLCC choir director Lyle Archibald.

Symphony goes south
