Lead and autism

I am not any type of medical professional, but is anyone other than me wondering if the autism epidemic has a lot more to do with lead in our children's toys than immunizations?

Over the past 20 or so years we've gone from giving baby a rattle or two and the contents of one of mom's kitchen drawers to buying them everything in sight hoping to entertain them and help their "Einstein potential." These two things seem to have increased along the same time frames. I don't believe for a second that these recent lead revelations are really new or isolated.

It wouldn't surprise me if our kids have been gnawing on and playing with lead-filled toys for years. Corporations aren't exactly known for fessing up when they've been contaminating the public.
