No to Diehl's deal

Turns out that our old developer friend Terry Diehl couldn't pull off selling million-dollar lots for multimillion-dollar homes at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. Damn the economy! The land is currently zoned for single-family homes, but on Jan. 14 a proposal will go before the Cottonwood Heights City Council to change it to a resort residential zone ("Hearing postponed on proposed zoning change," Tribune , Dec. 3).

This time Diehl is going for gold! The developer is trying to sell the idea that this pristine mountainside needs to be allowed to have not only homes, but condominium buildings, a hotel and limited retail space. All that with a gravel pit below it. Picture it now, Cottonwood Heights residents. Maybe the good old Holladay Gun Club wasn't that bad after all.

This developer could walk away with millions and Cottonwood Heights residents will be stuck with an eyesore forever.
