Can't have it both ways

What's the big fuss about the public option in health care reform? It makes little sense to me when those who oppose health care reform say that a public option will be poorly run and inefficient, and in the same breath claim that a public option would put private insurance companies out of business. Really? Just like how the United States Postal Service put FedEx and UPS out of business? Oh wait, it hasn't, but it has helped entice those companies to keep shipping rates affordable, while still allowing them to be large and profitable.

Those who oppose a government option can't have it both ways. If it's as clumsy and inefficient as they claim it will be, then why are they so afraid of it? If it's so bad, no one would choose it, unless they can't get insurance anywhere else, because private insurance would be faster and better. Or, if the public option is going to be so superbly run and efficient that it puts all private competition to shame, then wow! -- that's one amazing option that I would welcome.
